For the past few months, I’ve been on a murder mystery novel binge. I love thrillers and crime novels, and I love to read them with my family (especially since all of our Christmas vacation will be spent at my daughter’s house). I don’t typically set out to find a new read for the year – it just sort of happens. The same goes for self-published authors. It’s not necessarily their fault – it’s just the way life sometimes works out. But as much as I enjoy reading other people’s work, once you start getting into my favorite sub-genres, there isn’t much that can keep me away from them! And this is one of my favorite sub-genres – thriller/crime novels with a plot you won’t believe.
What is a thriller/crime novel with a plot you won’t believe?
This is probably the most common sub-genre within the thriller/crime novel genre. The story is usually focused on one character, who is in the midst of a struggle against some larger-than-life villain. The plot revolves around how this character wins against all odds and how the reader follows the character’s journey to discover the truth.
Thriller novels with mysteries
These novels use a combination of character development, plot twists, and the language of mystery to create a thrilling environment for the reader to enjoy. The plot usually leaves room for the reader to create their own theories and make their own assumptions.
Thriller novels with romance
These novels usually follow the protagonist and her love interest, who are also part of a detective agency. The love story is the central focus, and it often delves into the dark side of relationships. The language of romance helps create a comfortable atmosphere for the reader to enjoy.
Self-published thrillers
I’ve written about how to self-publish a novel before, and self-published authors aren’t any different from published authors. They want to get their books out there and make an impact. But in the beginning, it’s super important to make sure the book is marketable and has a chance of selling. That’s where a professional editor comes into play. A good editor will help you make the story more accessible to a wider audience. And they’ll also help you make the most of your limited marketing budget.
Mystery books for adults
These books follow a retired police detective who takes up the task of solving crimes that have haunted the community for years. The books are often centered on a mystery related to a specific location, such as a house or a city block.
Mystery books for teens
These books follow a similar format to the adult novels, with the addition of a contemporary storyline. However, these books are aimed at a younger audience, usually between the ages of 12 and 17. The books are often about friendship, self-esteem, and overcoming social awkwardness.
In Conclusion
Reading is one of the most wonderful things that a person can do. It can provide entertainment, provide insight into other cultures and help us connect with other human beings. When you’re in the mood for a good thriller or a good mystery, I have a variety of books for you. The best part is, you won’t know which book to start with!
